Ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show we have the first official photos of the 2013 Volkswagen Golf arrive.

Looking more sophisticated than the current Golf, the new Golf is underpinned by VW’s MQB Platform – which also underpins the new Audi A3 and SEAT Leon – and comes in at up to 100kg less than the current Golf.
Despite its weight loss, the new Golf grows in size, almost 6cm longer and a touch wider. Under the bonnet will be a range of tweaked VW lumps offering better economy and lower emissions with the 1.2 litre TSI kicking off the range and a 1.4 TSI with cylinder deactivation that cuts off two cylinders to save fuel.
Cosmetically, the new Golf keeps the old Golf shape but looks sleeker, with new head and tail light designs but still with the familiar thick C Pillar. Inside is just an evolution of the current Golf.
