The 2016 Volkswagen up! City Car is getting a facelift, which debuts at the Geneva Motor Show, and a new 89bhp turbo petrol engine.
It’s more than four years since the VW up! City Car first arrived, so it’s time for a bit of cosmetic titivation, some new equipment and a new 89bhp petrol turbo engine for the 2016 Volkswagen up!.Exterior changes for the 2016 up! include new LED running lights, new tail lights, new bumpers, door mirrors and a rear diffuser. Basically the normal facelift fodder.
Inside, the up! gets some additional colour choices for the dashboard, new Air Con with air filter, new steering wheel and additional connectivity for smartphones to control the infotainment. You can also have a new up! ‘Beats’ version with 300W Beats branded sound.
Standard equipment now includes stuff like LED lights and remote locking, with high up! models getting heated seats, ambient lights and 15″ alloys and move up! models a bigger 5″ display.
In an effort to get punters to lavish more money on options, Volkswagen now offers 13 different colours, ten graphic designs, a couple of interior colours and three roof colours
Perhaps the most interesting change for the 2016 up! is the arrival of an 89bh version of the 1.0 litre TSI, which manages to make the up! quicker (0-62mph is 10 seconds) whilst still returning official economy of 64.2mpg. The existing 59bhp and 74bhp versions of the engine remain, as does the electric e-up!.
Volkswagen say prices for the 2016 up! will stay the same, despite extra equipment and updates, and will be available in late summer 2016 after its Geneva debut.

Wolfie says
I wish they would give it five seats.
