The Mercedes E-Class Coupe arrives, looking just as you’d expect as a coupe version of the E-Class saloon, and sitting between the C and S-Class Coupes in size.
Mercedes has been teasing the new E-Class Coupe, although it’s a bit tough to work out why when we know it will be a coupe version of the E-Class saloon, look like a big brother to the C-Class Coupe and a little brother to the S-Class Coupe. And, in this world of ‘Russian Doll’ Mercedes models, that’s exactly what the new E-Class Coupe is.
This E-Class Coupe is a bit longer and wider than the old model, which means there might be room for people with legs in the back of it, and the interior is pretty much a copy of the one in the E-Class saloon. Nothing really novel to make the coupe feel a bit special.
At launch in the UK there will be a choice of three petrols and a single diesel, with the E220d with 191bhp the sole diesel offering for now.
The E200 petrol with 182bhp is the entry-level model (although we’re not sure the UK will get it), with the E300 with 240bhp likely to be the big petrol seller. If you want more, there will be an E400 4MATIC with 4WD from a 3.0 litre V6 with 328bhp. All come with Mercedes 9G-TRONIC auto box.
Following on later in 2017/2018 will be the more powerful E43 Coupe as well as a range-topping E63 Coupe.
Mercedes has given the coupe’s suspension a bit of a tweak so it sits lower, even with Dynamic Suspension option, has a wider track and you can also opt for air suspension with Air Body Control.
Just about everything else, from equipment and connectivity to trim levels and technology, is straight from the E-Class saloon.
The new 2017 Mercedes E-Class Coupe will shortly go on sale in the UK, with first customer cars expected in the spring.
How much is the new E-Class Coupe? Mercedes aren’t saying yet, but it’ll be more than the E-Class Saloon.
