The Mazda CX-5 gets a minor update for 2019, but it also gets a new range-topping CX-5 GT Sport Nav+ model with diesel and petrol versions on offer.
The current Mazda CX-5 – Mazda’s really rather appealing SUV – only arrived in 2017, with 2018 updates including a power increase for the diesel, a petrol automatic option and extra safety equipment added, so you wouldn’t really expect any updates for 2019 would be on the cards. But they are.
There’s nothing changing on the engine front, with the current SkyActiv engines remaining, but Mazda has decided to add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the CX-5 right across the range, and has had a play with the suspension too with modified roll bars, new bushings and tweaked damping valves to improve handling and comfort, as well as an updated version of Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control system.
But the big new is the addition of a new range-topping model – the Mazda CX-5 GT Sport Nav+ – which comes with a choice of a FWD 163bhp petrol or 181bhp 4WD diesel and takes its spec brief from the Mazda6 GT Sport Nav+.
That means 19″ bright alloys, real wood and satin chrome for the interior, Nappa leather, 7″ TFT dial display and new steering wheel as well as front seat ventilation, heated rear seats, sunroof, Adaptive LED headlights, Driver Attention Alert, Rear Smart City Brake and 360 View Monitor.
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is now on sale at Mazda’s UK dealers, with first customer cars arriving in February. Prices start at £25,595, rising to £37,195.
