Toyota Corolla GR Sport
The Toyota Corolla will be a hybrid only offering in the UK in 2020, as Toyota drops the petrol engine option and adds GR Sport and TREK models.
When the new Toyota Corolla Hatch and Touring Sports production began at the start of the year, Toyota offered them with a choice of Hybrid powertrains – 1.8 and 2.0 litre versions – but just a single petrol ICE engine. And now that single ICE engine has gone to the ‘yesterday’s engines’ bit of Toyota’s history book.It follows on from Toyota making the C-HR a hybrid-only offering, but with the 120bhp 1.8 litre hybrid offering and entry point and the 181bhp 2.0 litre hybrid a more appealing alternative we doubt anyone will miss the old 1.2 litre petrol.
But apart from making the Corolla hybrid-only, Toyota are delivering two new Corollas to the UK market – the Corolla GR Sport and Corolla TREK revealed earlier this year.
The Corolla GR Sport uses Toyota’s Gazoo Racing brand to raise its profile in the sport stakes – if not its power – with some Gazoo styling tweaks including a new mesh front grille, butch bumpers, 18″ black alloys and a silver strip pretending to five the GR Sport twin tailpipes, with LED headlights, a 7.0″ touchscreen, privacy glass and HUD completing the makeover.
The Corolla Touring Sports Trek arrives as a Corolla ‘Allroad’ with a 20mm suspension hike with 17″ alloys, privacy glass, LED headlights, black edging for the bumpers, black wheelarch mouldings, some silver inserts, TREK -branded scuff plates, two-tone fabric, bits of wood trim and new multimedia.
Both the new Toyota Corolla GR Sport and Corolla Trek are already available to order for deliver in the New Year.
