Ferrari will be revealing the limited edition Ferrari 599 GTO on 7th April, featuring 670bhp and 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds.
Back in November we first reported that Ferrari were planning to resurrect the GTO badge and attach it to a limited edition Ferrari 599. We’d heard from a couple of people who’d been invited to put a deposit on a ‘Limited Edition 599’, so we knew something was brewing, but it was Autogespot who got a handle on the GTO badge and confirmed the limited run had a name.
We’d half expected the Ferrari 599 GTO to turn up at Geneva this month, but it seems Ferrari was too wrapped up with the green goodness that was the Ferrari 599 Hybrid – the 599 HY-KERS – to think about taking along a high-performance version of a car that is already a bit of a fluffy-bunny killer. So, despite reports that Ferrari are saving the 599 GTO for the Paris Show in the Autumn (which would be slightly daft as we know at least one person expecting his in June), we now learn that the 599 GTO will get a reveal on the 7th April.
Thanks again to Autogespot – who seem to have a real inside track on the GTO story – the 599 GTO will produce 670bhp from its V12 and manage 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds and 0-124mph in 9.8 seconds. It is also said to get round Fiorano a second quicker than the Enzo. But then the same has been said about several of Ferrari’s recent cars, so don’t read too much in to that – the Enzo is old hat in performance terms now.
Part of the extra performance comes from a bit of weight shedding – around 45kg – and the fitting of the exhaust from the 599XX, although it’s doubtful if the 599xx noise levels would be road-legal without a bit of compromise.
A car to look forward to, and very possibly the swansong for Ferrari’s V12.
