Honda says Electric Cars not viable

Honda boss says electric cars are not viable - just ask Top Gear

Honda boss Takanobu Ito has said that he believes electric cars are not viable and it will probably be 20 years before they are. Blimey, common sense.

Blimey, there seems to be an outbreak of common sense and reality all round this week. What’s going on?

Yesterday we had a report that the new UK Government is considering dropping the planned subsidy of £5,000 on electric cars. Frankly, we could never see any good reason for the subsidy in the first place, beyond vain politicians polishing their green halo.

And if you need additional verification that dumping the subsidy is a good idea, just listen to Honda. Honda boss Takanobu Ito has said that as far as Honda is concerned electric cars are simply not viable. The battery technology is just not up to the job and it will probably be 20 years before it is.

Again, that’s just what we’ve been saying. We have no issue with electric cars designed to run in a confined urban area – central London for example. The limited range is not an issue and the pollution gets moved out from the city. Electric cars are zero emissions at the point of use, but as the man from the Royal Academy of Engineers helpfully confirmed, they are no less emitting than a regular internal combustion engined car.

The problem is that in the one place electric cars are viable they are difficult to charge. It’s hard to justify a network of charging points being paid for by the taxpayer, and very few who live in congested urban areas have off street parking where they can recharge their cars.

Frankly, we still see hydrogen power as the way forward.

LOL! We assume you’re accusing us of being liars? Sorry, that’s what Honda said. And they’re right, at least as far as being a replacement for ICEs is concerned.

      But we like constructive criticisms!
