Porsche has confirmed it is extending its Leipzig Plant to create facilities for production of the Porsche Cajun. 1,000 jobs will be created in the process.
No, this isn’t a story confirming that the Porsche Cajun is going to be produced. We’ve already reported that Porsche has officially acknowledged that the Cajun will be built. No, this is confirmation of where the Cajun will be built, and when.
Unsurprisingly, Porsche are choosing to build the Cajun at the Porsche Plant in Leipzig where they already build the Panamera and the Cayenne – the non-sport Porsches.
And just like when Porsche announced the Panamera, we learn that the Porsche plant in Leipzig is to be extended once again, this time to accommodate Cajun production, with a body assembly line and paint shop dedicated to the new baby Cayenne.
Construction of the extended facilities at Leipzig are due to start later this year and be ready to roll in 2012, creating 1,000 new jobs in the process. We’re expecting the Cajun to make an appearance in 2012 and go on sale in 2013.
Porsche may be building the Cajun at Leipzig, but as we reported in December it is actually Audi who are developing the Porsche Cajun after the latest round of VAG rationalisation.
Which, as the Cajun is based on the Q5, makes sense.
