BMW Canada has put together a video featuring the BMW 1-Series M Coupe playing ‘Hole in the Wall’ on a deserted desert runway. Worth watching.
The BMW 1 Series M Coupe is a car many thought wouldn’t be built. But it was.
It was because BMW could, and because it fills another performance niche. Of course, it comes at the end of the current M3’s production so it won’t nick sales from within, and it comes with the ‘1M’ moniker instead of the hallowed BMW M1 tag.
But despite being a niche car for a niche market with a niche window of production (only a year), the BMW 1M is a cracking car.
Equipped with the twin-turbo six-pot N54 lump from the Z4, the 1M Coupe delivers 335bhp and can call on 332lb/ft of twist to shove the hot 1-Series to 62mph in under 5 seconds.
All of which makes the M Coupe a hoot to throw around, a game that BMW in Canada has managed to encapsulate in just a minute and a half of hooning madness in this video.
The premise is simple – man drives BMW 1-Series M Coupe sideways down a deserted highway whilst drifting through 1M-shaped concrete blocks in the road. A sort of motoring ‘Hole in the Wall’, but without Anton Du Beke
It’s CGI’d, of course, but the driving is real.
Good watch.
