Is this the exhaust from the Peugeot 208 GTi?

We had the reveal of the new Peugeot 208 back in November, and a decent car it looks to be. Although whether it will be good enough to ease Peugeot’s sales woes remains to be seen. But perhaps a halo 208 in the form of a Peugeot 208 GTi would do the trick?

Peugeot has revaled a teaser photo (above) on its Facebook page which, we hope, is the first salvo in the PR battle to up interest in the 208 GTi ahead of, perhaps, a Geneva reveal.

If this is the new Peugeot 208 – which is not a certainty – then we’d expect it to get a 200bhp version of the PSA/BMW 4-pot petrol, which could easily be enough to evoke favourable comparison with the 205 GTi, which won’t do Peugeot’s fortunes any harm at all.

But your guess is probably as good as ours. All we actually see is a sporty exhaust on a butch-looking tail and a red paint job. In truth it could be anything, but the expectation is the new 208 GTi.

Or is the wish father to the thought?
