New 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo & Turbo S revealed: UPDATED with Video

May 3, 2013 By Cars UK

The 2013/2014 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S (991) have been revealed with up to 553bhp in the Turbo S and prices starting at £118,349. Debuts at Frankfurt 2013.

The quickest way from A to B on public roads has always been in a Porsche 911 Turbo, and now you can pop off to your Porsche dealer and place your order for the 991 version of both the Porsche 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S as Porsche reveal the latest iterations of their fastest car, 40 years on from when the 911 Turbo first scared the pants off its owners.

This time there’s no waiting for the Turbo S to follow the Turbo, with both models on offer straight out of the gate. The 911 Turbo gets the 3.8 litre flat six with 513bhp and the Turbo S gets an even more fulsome 552bhp, enough to get to 62mph in just 3.1 seconds and on to 198mph. And, with its four wheel drive, it’ll feel even quicker in the real world.

As this is the 991 version of the Turbo, it grows in size from the last Turbo, with even more girth thanks to the statement bulging rear wings which add 28mm over the Carrera 4, but despite the extra size Porsche say the new 911 Turbo weighs less than the old model (although they’re not telling us by how much).

The extra size of the new Turbo means a longer wheelbase and wider track and wheel size grows to 20″, with the Turbo S getting centre locking wheel nuts so you can pretend you’re about to pull in for a pit stop.

The new 911 Turbo doesn’t just get the usual four wheel drive, it also gets four wheel steering too which, say Porsche, bestows new levels of agility which, combined with the extra power and performance, means the Turbo can get round the Nurburgring in 7m 30s – quicker than  the old Carrera GT.

As expected, both the Turbo and Turbo S eschew a manual gearbox in favour of Porsche’s PDK ‘box – which won’t go down well with the anoraks – a refined PDCC with hydraulic anti-roll bars, a new water-cooled four wheel drive system and what Porsche are calling a ‘Sound Symposer’ to make the aural delights of the engine and exhaust more appealing.

Both the new Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S are now on sale – with first cars expected in September – with the 911 Turbo costing from £118,349 and the Turbo S from £140,852.

As quick on paper as the McLaren 12C and a lump cheaper. What’s not to like?

That it looks just like every other 911 there’s ever been?
