Volkswagen are trumpeting that you can get in to the new, Mk 7 Golf GTD for just £199 a month. But it’s quite a bit more in reality.

There’s no question that car buyers are getting themselves in to new cars at affordable money thanks to the range of finance packages on offer now, including leases, PCP and contract hire.
A press release from VW this morning is shouting loud and proud that the very appealing Mk 7 Golf GTD can be your for just £199 a month. But that’s not the whole story.
Yes, you can have a Golf GTD for £199 a month, but you’ll have to stump up a hefty £7,237.55 deposit which, if you spread that over the three years, means you’re actually paying around £400 a month.
In truth, it’s a perfectly good deal, for a very good car, but there are better deals out there at much more transparent prices.
For example, the mad as a box of frogs Lings Cars (other lease companies are available) are offering the 5-door Golf GTD (not the 3-door in VW’s offer) for £314.00 a month over 2 years with just three payments down, which makes your real monthly cost around £350 instead of £400. And you don’t have to find the price of a new Dacia as a deposit.
Perhaps VW should go the whole hog and offer the new Golf GTD for just £1 a month (deposit of £14k required)?
