The Skoda Fabia R 5 has been revealed – ahead of a debut at the Essen Motor Show – as the new face of Skoda Rallying for the 2015 European Rally Championship.

Skoda Fabia R 5 Rally Special revealed
Long before Skoda really managed to shake off its ‘skip on wheels’ tag, it managed to carve out a successful rally programme, and it’s most recent rally car – the Fabia S2000 – managed to carry that tradition on with big successes in the European Rally Championships in the last few years.
Still recognisably a Fabia, the R 5 gets the usual load livery, wider body with butch wheel arches and a thumping great wing at the back.
To meet Rally regs, the R 5 will have to weigh at least 1230kg and come with a 1.6 litre turbo engine, which is expected to develop around 260bhp which will be delivered through a five-speed sequential ‘box.
Dr. Frank Welsch, Skoda’s Tech Development man, said:
The ŠKODA Fabia R 5 Concept Car gives a first insight into our new rally car. The concept is based on the new ŠKODA Fabia, which demonstrates more emotion than ever before, in both the hatchback and estate versions.
Which neatly ties in the rally car to the new Skoda Fabia and Fabia Estate which is, let’s face it, the whole point of Shoda’s rally exploits.
