New 2016 Chevrolet Camaro – weighs less and gets a four-cylinder engine

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro has been revealed as a lighter, quicker, more economical and more aerodynamic car than its predecessor. But it’s not for the UK.

Ford may have bitten the bullet and decided to build the new Mustang in RHD. But Chevrolet are not playing that game, so the new Camaro won’t be coming to the UK in RHD, although it will be available in Europe.

Looking much the same as the outgoing model, the new Camaro has, however, undergone extensive wind tunnel testing to improve its aerodynamics, and shed a substantial 90kg too. It’s also a bit shorter and a bit narrower than before, and more rigid.

Interestingly, it’s also a Muscle Care with a four-cylinder engine option, in this case a 2.0 litre with 275bhp, good for the 0-62mph sprint in under six seconds and official economy somewhere in the mid-30s.

Next up is the 3.6 litre V6 with a more substantial 335bhp, and the range-topping Camaro SS with a 455bhp 6.2 litre V8. Both can be had with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed auto ‘box.

Inside, the new Camaro is said to be more appealing with a new cabin that has a more driver-focused layout, 8″ high definition instrument cluster, MyLink Infotainment and Driver Modes that include Snow, Tour and Sport, as well as an extra ‘Track’ mode for the V8 SS.

The new Camaro is expected to arrive in US showrooms before the end of 2015 and in Europe in early 2016.
