The Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept – revealed at the Geneva Motor Show – has won the coveted prize for top concept car at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, and looks certain to be heading for production.
Bentley revealed their take on a possible future two-seater sports car at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year with the EXP 10 Speed Six, a stunning take on Bentley’s future direction. Now, the Speed Six has made the journey to Italy to strut its stuff at the 2015 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este where it, quite rightly, walked off with the prize for the best Design Award for Concept Cars & Prototypes. But what the Speed Six’s appearance at Villa d’Este has also done is give us a better look at Bentley glorious car, and the opportunity to see, and hear, it on video (below).
What has puzzled us a little is the noise the EXP 10 makes; we’d assumed it would get a 4.0 litre V8 Turbo – perhaps with some electrical help along the way – but we’re not sure that fits with what we hear. And nor does it fit with the alternative W12 powerplant Bentley has in their arsenal.
But perhaps the clue is in the name – Speed Six – and Bentley has given the EXP 10 some sort of six-cylinder engine from VW’s cupboard of goodies, possibly complete with some electrical assistance?
If the Speed Six is heading for production – and it’s almost inconceivable it’s not – then, if it’s intended to be more of an entry-point for Bentley ownership, a six-cylinder lump under the bonnet would make a lot of sense. Perhaps’s Posrche’s 3.6 litre petrol turbo with almost 400bhp is a starting point?
But whatever lurks beneath the bonnet of the EXP 10 Speed Six, we’re expecting Bentley to announce it’s heading for production – probably with a few styling tweaks – and hopefully before too long.
