The Ford EcoSport – Ford’s compact SUV – hasn’t been a roaring success, so Ford have enhanced the EcoSport for UK buyers. On sale July 2015.
Ford decided earlier this year that the needed to re-think their EcoSport Compact SUV to make it more appealing to UK and European buyers, and those improvements have now arrived with the ‘Enhanced’ EcoSport on sale in the UK.Visually, the most noticeable change is the delete option for the tailgate-mounted spare wheel, but Ford has also made small styling changes, given the EcoSport partial leather seats (for the Titanium model), added some chrome and a new steering wheel.
You can also add a Winter Pack – which adds a heated windscreen, mirrors and front seats – and the driving dynamics are now more suitable for UK roads, with changes to the springs, dampers, rear suspension, ESP and steering.
Ford also claim the restyled interior makes the EcoSport feel more upmarket and contemporary, with higher quality materials, an improved dash and centre console as well as some extra chrome here too.
To add to the visual titivation, Ford has also added thicker sound deadening materials to reduce NVH.
Engine choices are the 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol, 1.5 litre petrol or 1.5 litre diesel, and these engines, and the gearbox, have been revised for more low-down torque and better driveability.
Joe Bakai, Ford’s Product Development VP, said:
EcoSport was developed in some of the most rigorous terrains and climates across the globe to make it an even more compelling option for customers as part of our growing European SUV range. In addition, the team at Lommel Proving Ground in Belgium have further enhanced the driving dynamics to make the new EcoSport even more fun to drive on European roads.
The ‘Enhanced’ Ford EcoSport is now on sale in Ford’s UK dealers.
