2015 British Grand Prix: Hamilton (c) on pole, Rosberg (r) 2nd and Massa (l) 3rd
Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position for tomorrow’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone, beating team-mate Nico Rosberg who starts second.
Lewis Hamilton has taken his eighth pole position in nine outings this year in final qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, beating his team-mate Nico Rosberg by 0.113 seconds, the third time Hamilton has been on pole at Silverstone.Mercedes may have kept form to lock out the front row, but Williams did well to lock out row two, with Felipe Massa taking third spot and his team-mate, Valtteri Bottas, in fourth.
That means the Ferraris are pushed back to row three, with Kimi Raikkonen pipping Sebastian Vettel to fifth, leaving a nice neat front three rows of Mercedes, Williams and Ferrari.
Behind the top three rows, Red Bull’s Kvyat is in seventh followed by Toros Rosso’s Carlos Sainz, Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg is in ninth and the second Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo in tenth, although that’s because Ricciardo had a lap time that would have put him in seventh disallowed for speeding at Copse.
Any hopes that McLaren would be able to improve for their home Grand Prix floundered, with Fernando Alonso only managing 17th place and Jenson Button 18th.
It seems the best McLaren can hope for in tomorrow-s race – which seems almost certain to be a walk in the park for Mercedes – is to finish.
