Aston Martin Vulcan flying laps at Spa

The Aston Martin Vulcan – Aston’s hypercar track special – will be doing two flying laps of Spa this weekend ahead of the 24 Hours of Spa to demonstrate its performance.
Aston Martin’s take on the track day hypercar – in the mould of the McLaren P1 GTR and Ferrari FXX K – arrived at Geneva earlier this year as the Aston Martin Vulcan, turned up at Goodwood to strut its stuff (a little) and now it’s at the Spa weekend running two flying laps ahead of the 24 Hours of Spa event. In the hands of Aston’s works driver Darren Turner, the 800bhp, 7.0 litre V12 Vulcan should be able to put in times at Spa that rival the fastest GT3 cars in the race, and is a great way to showcase how the Vulcan looks and performs as Aston try to entice deep-pocketed enthusiasts to partake in the Vulcan experience.
Turner, who has been heavily involved in the development of the Vulcan, said:
It’s been amazing to have been involved in this project from the beginning.
From the conceptual sketches through to working with the designers on driver ergonomics, it is a fascinating process to be part of.
It was very early days for the car when we first ran it at Goodwood Festival of Speed, but we certainly made a good impression and now we get to show the car in its most natural environment. I’m looking forward to our laps prior to the race and then being able to watch one of the best 24-hour events on the calendar.
Aston Martin are only building 24 Vulcans – each costing £1.5 million – so a good showing at Spa could see the number available drop dramatically.
