Mazda Koeru concept heading for Frankfurt Motor Show
A new concept from Mazda – the Mazda Koeru – is heading for a debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and looks to preview a new coupe crossover.
The 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show is drawing closer, so we can expect more teases for new models from car makers keen to get their latest and greatest in the public eye. And today’s tease for Frankfurt is a new concept from Mazda – the Mazda Koeru.Mazda are being very tight-lipped about the Koeru, apart from to say it gets SKYACTIV powertrains, is a crossover and that its name means “exceed” or “go beyond” in Japanese.
But take away the teaser sketch artistic licence and what we seem to have is a coupe crossover come SUV, which makes a lot of sense.
Premium car makers are queueing up to build crossover coupes, so why shouldn’t more mainstream car makers too? And the Koeru does look to be a coupe crossover.
But is the Koeru just a concept to prove what Mazda can do in this segment with its KODO design language, or is the Koeru actually heading for production?
Well, for what it’s worth, Mazda concepts usually do preview a new model rather than being just a flight of fantasy, so the Koeru could very well end up previewing a production Mazda for Geneva next year – perhaps as a Mazda CX-4 Coupe Crossover, neatly sitting between the CX-3 and CX-4 as the sporty, lifestyle option?
We’ll find out at Frankfurt.
