The new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe has been officially revealed ahead of its Frankfurt Motor Show with up to 503bhp from its bi-turbo V8.
We’ve seen so much of the new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe – and had the reveal of the regular new Mercedes C-Class Coupe – that there’s almost nothing left to know. But that doesn’t stop the new C63 AMG being a deeply impressive car with good looks, huge power and the promise of a very entertaining drive. Mercedes are calling the new C 63 AMG “the sportiest C-Class ever”, and on the evidence they’re not wrong.
The AMG makeover for the C-Class is appealing, but not in your face, with bigger wheel arches, new bumpers, bigger sills, bigger alloys, quad exhausts and a neat little spoiler on the back.
Under the bonnet buyers will have the choice of the regular C63 with 469bhp from its 4.0 litre b-turbo V8, but opt for the S version and you’ll get a huge 503bhp – enough to get to 62mph in just 3.9 seconds and on to 155mph (180mph if you pay to have the limiter removed by opting for Mercedes AMG’s Driver’s Package). Which should give the BMW M4 – and even the new M4 GTS when it arrives – more than a run for its money.
Mercedes has also endowed the C63 with wider tracks, allowing for 255mm tyres at the front and 285mm at the back, as well as a completely redesigned multi-link suspension setup at the back and additional body strengthening. There’s also a limited slip diff and dynamic engine mounts for the C63 S.
Inside looks to be pure C-Class – not a bad thing at all – with the addition a number of AMG-specific controls, AMG badges and the option of Performance seats for extra support.
The Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe will officially debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September and arrive in the UK in March 2016. Mercedes hasn’t revealed prices yet, but expect the standard C 63 to be the wrong side of £60k and the C63 AMG S just the right side of £70k.
