As NEW Ford RS200 up for sale

A Ford RS200 – chassis 169, though to be the last car delivered – is up for auction at RM Sotheby’s ‘Driven by Disruption’ event in New York in December.
The Ford RS200 was Ford’s attempt to take on Group B rallying in the 1990s, which meant producing 200 road-legal cars to comply and this – chassis 169 – is thought to be the last one delivered. With a plastic/fibreglass body designed by Ghia and built by Reliant (they of the three-wheel Robin, but also the appealing Scimitar), it came with a mid-mounted engine, complicated four-wheel drive that sent the power to the front first to accommodate the front-mounted gearbox, and a turbo 1.8 litre delivering 250bhp – enough for the 60mph sprint in under 4 seconds in road-going trim – the RS200 is a rare and appealing relic of Ford’s Group B efforts.
This particular RS200 is thought to be one of the last to be delivered after it sat wrapped up at Boreham until 1994, after which it made the trip – legally – across the Pond to its new owner, who recently parted with it to the current seller.
With just 1,960 km on the clock – and the only non-original part being the recently replaced carpets – this RS200 is probably the perfect buy for a keen collector – depending on price.
Just how much this RS200 will fetch will be discovered at RM Sotheby’s Driven by Disruption auction in New York on 10 December.
