Hyundai Ioniq teased again
The Hyundai Ioniq – a new Hyundai with a choice of electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid powertrains – is teased again as Hyundai ready a challenge to the Toyota Prius.
Just last week, the Hyundai Ioniq came in to focus as Hyundai revealed a single silhouette image of a new car for 2016 with a choice of three ‘green’ powertrains – Battery electric, Plug-in Hybrid and Hybrid – and now it’s back again, this time with two new teaser images (above and below). As the images released are artists impressions, there’s a certain amount of license taken, and the production Ioniq will no doubt be more mainstream. But Hyundai are promising much, although a bit short on detail.
The promise includes ‘head-turning good-looks’ as well as class-leading aerodynamics, with a very slippery shape that Hyundai imply has some form of active aerodynamics in the front to direct air flow.
The Ioniq is being built on a new platform – shared with the forthcoming Kia Niro – which is designed from scratch to accommodate electric and hybrid powertrains, with an interior that looks to be a simplified version of the latest Hyundais, but with eco-friendly materials.
Expected to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the Ioniq will get its first showing in Korea in January. Hopefully then Hyundai will put some flesh on the promise the Ioniq holds, with details of the powertrains in particular.
