New Aston Martin 5.2 litre V12 Twin Turbo engine teased
Aston Martin has released a teaser video for a new 5.2 litre Twin Turbo V12 engine, which could be first seen in the new DB11. But is it an AMG?
Aston Martin have been using the same V12 engine for more than a decade admittedly with many improvements over the years – and engine first developed by bolting a pair of Ford V 6 engines together. But is that about to change?Earlier today, Aston Martin released a teaser video of a new engine, with a pan across the engine, impressive sound, and a finale that focussed on the “V12 5.2 Twin Turbo” script on the engine cover.
So we clearly have a new engine from Aston Martin, turning to turbo power just as many have done to cut emissions and improve economy and, hopefully, delivering even more power.
What we don’t know is exactly how much power Aston’s new Twin Turbo V12 has – we’d hope something north of 600bhp – and nor do we know what its genesis is.
Is the new V12 a downsized take on the original Ford lump – complete with twin turbos – or is it the first obvious fruit of the relationship with AMG?
Whatever the answer is, we’re likely to find out at the Geneva Motor show when the DB9’s replacement, the new Aston Martin DB11, gets revealed, the most likely first candidate for the new engine.
Although we have a sneaky suspicion we’ll find out before then
