The regular, mainstream versions of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia will finally debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and go on sale in Europe in the summer.
Last summer, the Alfa Romeo Giulia was revealed as Alfa’s challenger to cars like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, but the only version revealed was the mighty Giulia Quadrifoglio, complete with a 503bhp, Ferrari-developed twin-turbo V6.It seems, since Alfa revealed the range-topping Giulia, they’ve run in to problems with development, with the Giulia struggling to pass internal crash tests. But it appears that’s now been resolved and the launch of the new Giulia range is back on track.
The main offering – certainly for the UK and Europe – will be the diesel version of the Giulia, which will have the 2.2 litre diesel engine you’ll find in the Jeep Cherokee, offered in a variety of power outputs from 150bhp to 210bhp.
Petrol version of the Giulia will get a 2.0 litre MultiAir engine, which will also come in a variety of outputs, from 200bhp to 280bhp.
There will be both manual and automatic versions of the Giulia, as well as four-wheel drive options, with the lower-powered diesels expected to get a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive, and the highest output diesel 4WD and an auto ‘box. Four-wheel drive is expected to be an option across the petrol models.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia is now due to start production in April, so we should see the first Gulias in the UK in late summer.
