The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe has been revealed ahead of a New York Motor show debut, revealing Mercedes’ take on the BMW X4.
The Mercedes GLC Coupe has been teased by Mercedes ahead of this reveal, but there really was little to tease and nothing that comes as a surprise.Mercedes is busy playing catch-up with BMW with the GLC Coupe by creating a ‘lifestyle’ version of the regular GLC, complete with coupe roofline, to compete with BMW’s coupe take on the X3 – the BMW X4.
Looking a lot like a GLE Coupe on a boil wash, the GLC Coupe is the front end of the GLC with a coupe roofline from the GLE Coupe at the back, an interior that’s the same as the GLC but with less headroom in the back and less space for stuff in the boot.
Standard equipment will include fake leather, 18″ alloys and Keyless, with AMG Line models getting sports seats and some sporty cosmetic titivations.
Engine choices for the UK are likely to kick off with just the GLC 220d and GLC 250d diesels, although there’s little doubt Mercedes will offer a Coupe version of the new AMG GLC 43, with its 326bhp petrol V6, and a GLC 350e plug-in hybrid.
No prices have been revealed for the GLC Coupe – which is expected to go on sale in the UK towards the end of 2016 – but £3-4k more than the regular GLC would be about right.
