NO new Jaguar XK to take on the Aston Martin DB11

There will be no new Jaguar XK to take on cars like the Aston Martin DB11 and Mercedes S-Class Coupe says Jaguar’s US boss.

When the Jaguar F-Type was revealed back in 2012, it looked like the writing was on the wall for Jaguar’s big XK Coupe, and by the summer of 2012 the Jaguar XK ceased production.

But it seemed the XK was only taking a step back from the limelight, and would be set to return as a more upmarket super GT, with Ian Callum – Jaguar’s design boss – expecting to create a new Jaguar XK to compete with cars like the new Aston Martin DB11 (well, at the time, the DB9).

But it seems Jaguar has now given up on plans to build a new XK, with America boss Joe Eberhardt telling Car and Driver that there is no longer a place for a car like the XK in Jaguar’s line-up.

It seems Jaguar believe the range-topping F-Type is as expensive as they want to go as they aim to grow sales to catch up with Land Rover’s sales success, and will be concentrating on more affordable cars.

That means a new crossover to join the F-Pace – expected to be the E-Pace – although there are no plans to go any smaller than the new Jaguar XE.

However, despite a decision not to build a new XK, it seems Jaguar is still intent on replacing the XJ with a new model, and we can only hope they finally deliver a range-topping Jaguar XJ Coupe this time round.
