MG GS SUV revealed at London Motor Show
The new MG GS has been revealed at the London Motor Show ahead of going on sale in June, with three trim levels, one engine and a DCT option.
The MG GS revealed at the London Motor Show today is the European version of a car that’s already on sale in other parts of the world – and previewed by the MG CS Concept in 2013 – and will go on sale officially in June, at prices we expect to undercut rivals in this sector – like the Nissan Qashqai – by a fair chunk. The new MG SUV carries over the familiar family look from the rest of the MG range, with a small grille with central MG badge, a deep rounded front bumper, bulbous wheel arches and contoured bonnet and flanks. It looks a perfectly presentable rival to cars like the Qashqai.
Underpinning the GS is a new platform developed with SAIC, which makes the GS 4500mm long and 1675mm wide with a 2650mm wheelbase, figures that make it longer and wider than the Qashqai and with a wheelbase much the same.
The only engine option – certainly the only one announced – will be a 1.5 litre petrol with 168bhp and 184lb/ft of torque, although a 2.0 litre petrol and a diesel option are almost certain.
Three trim levels will be available, and the top level trim will be available with a DCT gearbox (standard offering is a six-speed manual) driving either the front or all four wheels depending on spec.
Expect more details when MG announces full UK specs and prices in the coming weeks.
