The new LaFerrari Convertible is the Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta
The open top version of LaFerrari, which was expected to be LaFerrari Spider, will actually be Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta when it arrives in Paris.
To no ones surprise, especially after Sergio Marchionne admitted as much and Gordon Ramsey bragged about his order on Top Gear, Ferrari are making a LaFerrari Convertible which, common sense tells us, will be the Ferrari LaFerrari Spider. But it won’t.A bit of digging around and it seems those who are getting the open top LaFerrari expect it to be LaFerrari Aperta rather than Spider (Aperta means ‘Open’), a badge recently used on cars like the 599 SA Aperta and as the ‘A’ in the 458 Speciale A.
But whatever the name, the Aperta still comes with the same 6.3 litre V12 engine combined with electric motor trickery to deliver a scintillating 950bhp, even if there are some changes from the Coupe LaFerrari elsewhere.
They include the obvious lack of a roof – replaced by a removable panel rather than a proper foldable roof – along with a pair of buttresses, some extensive modifications to the carbon fibre chassis to keep the Aperta rigid, and aerodynamic changes to keep the convertible as slippery as the coupe.
It all sounds very appealing, but if you’re thinking of raiding you piggy-bank, or fishing down the back of the sofa, to come up with a sum very much the wrong side of £1 million, don’t bother – LaFerrari Aperta is already sold out.
