Mercedes to reveal EV to rival Tesla Model S

A new electric saloon car from Mercedes will debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in the Autumn as Mercedes take aim at the Tesla Model S.
Mercedes are arguably responsible for keeping Tesla afloat during its toughest times, and we wonder if they’ll also be responsible for their eventual demise with a new range of EVs aimed straight at Tesla?A Mercedes executive in Australia has been telling Motoring that Mercedes will be revealing the first of a new range of electric cars at the Paris Motor Show in September, which will have a similar range and similar price to the Tesla Model S.
Our original report on Mercedes’ new EVA Platform for electric cars suggested there will be two saloon cars and two SUVs in Mercedes new EV range, and that the first would be an electric saloon car sitting between the C-Class And E-Class. We must assume this is it.
That would make the new electric Mercedes smaller than the Model S, but, as Mercedes’ man in Australia says, it will be delivered on time and it will be a Mercedes. Which will help sales no end, as will the option of RWD or 4WD, power of up to 600bhp and styling influenced by the Mercedes Concept IAA (pictured above).
A reveal in Paris doesn’t mean Mercedes new electric saloon going on sale straight away – it will probably be a year later – but it does signal the start of Mercedes assault on the EV market, with an SUV next out of the gate followed by an S-Class sized saloon and a giant of an SUV.
And with the Paris Motor Show less than three months away, we should start to get more on Mercedes new EV before too long.

I am excited about what Mercedes are proposing to do with EVs. This hopefully will see the demise of NOx producing engines and move everyone to a more sustainable future.
