Land Rover updates the Range Rover for 2017 with a new Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic, new V6 petrol engine and autonomous technology.
The clumsily named Range Rover SVAutobiography spawns the even more clumsily named Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic, fettled by Land Rover’s SVO (isn’t the SVAutobiography?) to give a more sporty take on the Range Rover.
That means lowered suspension (by 8mm – that’s less than a third of an inch) with revisions to the knuckles, links, springs and dampers to deliver the perfect balance of comfort and performance and quicker responses.
The SVAutobiography also gets Land Rover’s Dynamic Response, which controls body roll, and Adaptive Dynamics for the perfect dynamic setup at all times.
Under the bonnet is the same 543bhp supercharged V8 as the Range Rover Sport SVR, making the SVAutobiography the most powerful Range Rover to date (according to Land Rover, although we thought the regular SVAutobiography had the same engine) hitting 60mph in 5.1 seconds.
Cosmetic changes include Graphite Atlas for the side vents, bonnet finisher, grille, finishers and script, a choice of 21″ or 22″ alloys in three finishes and red Brembo brake calipers and quad chrome tailpipes.
Inside, the SVAutobiography Dynamic comes with Diamond quilted leather with contrast stitching, Grand Black veneer, bits of red (it’s ‘sporty’), knurled finish on the rotary gear knob and start button and flappy paddles (as we said, it’s ‘sporty).
Oddly, Land Rover say the Range Rover SVAutobiography will cost from £132,800, which is £16k less than the regular SVAutobiography.
As well as the new Dynamic Range Rover, UK buyers now get the option of another petrol engine with the arrival of JLR’s 3.0 litre supercharged V6, offering 335bhp and 332lb/ft of torque, enough to get the RR to 62mph in 7.1 seconds.
Standard technology for the 2017 Range Rover includes Rear Park Distance Control, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter, Lane Departure Warning and Autonomous Braking, with the Drive Pack now getting Intelligent Speed Limiter and Drive Condition Monitor to go with its existing tech like Blind Spot Monitoring, Traffic Sign Recognition and Reverse Traffic Detection.
On top of all that, you can also opt for the Drive Pro Pack which gives you all the aforementioned but also throws in Adaptive Cruise with Queue Assist and Intelligent Emergency Braking, Advanced Tow Assist for easy towing manoeuvres and Low Traction Launch for clean getaway on slippery stuff.
One upgrade for 2017 that will be particularly welcome is the arrival in the Range Rover of Land Rover’s latest InControl Touch Pro Infotainment with 10″ touchscreen with dual view and new APps to control vehicle functions remotely.
Finally, you get the choice of 19 new paint finishes – gloss and matte.
The 2017 Range Rover – and the new Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic – go on sale in Land Rover’s UK dealers later in the year, with the SVAutobiography Dynamic costing from £132,800 and the 2017 Range Rover range from £76,350.
