The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo – effectively a Panamera Estate – has been revealed in production guise ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
It’s sometimes hard to believe where Porsche has ended up.The maker of the 911 is now effectively a sports SUV manufacturer with a sideline in sports saloons and the odd sports car.
And now it’s about to go where no one would ever have expected to deliver the first Porsche Estate car to the market – the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo.
Of course, Porsche’s SUVs are no ordinary SUVs, and although they’re not the prettiest things on the market – an accusation which could equally be levelled at every other Porsche model – they are, by far, the best on-road SUVs you can buy.
So we probably need have no worries that the new Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, although a Porsche Estate (or, more kindly, a Porsche Shooting Brake) will be staid and plodding and fit just for shifting stuff. In fact, we can be certain.
Looking very like the Sports Turismo Concept we saw in 2012, the new back end – all wrapped up in the same length as the Panamera saloon – adds an extra bit of boot space – and much improved looks – to the Panamera, and it also makes for bigger back doors and more headroom.
All the Sport Turismo ar being offered with 4WD, and you have a choice of the 327bhp Panamera 4 Sport Turismo at £73,017, 434bhp 4S Sport Turismo at £93,979, 542bhp Turbo Sport Turismo at £117,247, 465bhp E-Hybrid Sport Turismo at £83,288.
Don’t be surprised if the Turbo S E-Hybrid with its 671bhp makes it in to the Sport Turismo before too long, and now the Panamera is getting derivatives, look out for a future Panamera Coupe – the new Porsche 928.
The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo is now on sale at Porsche’s UK dealers, although you’ll have to wait until October for your car.
