Porsche has revealed their estate / shooting brake take on the Panamera – the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo – and it looks good.
The Porsche Panamera is another Porsche in the mould of the Cayenne – great car with Marmite looks. But it looks like Porsche has found a way to inject decent lines in to the Panamera with the reveal of the Panamera Sport Turismo at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
No longer does the Panamera have a dog shagging back end, it’s now sleek and swooping. The front end gets a slicker makeover too – which probably gives us a taste of the Panamera facelift to come – and the whole car looks cohesive and appealing.
Porsche are calling the Panamera Sport Turismo a concept to gauge opinion, but if the reception in Paris is anything to go by they’d be better off dumping the current Panamera and replacing it with the Sport Turismo – it looks that good.
The Sport Turismo overshadowed Porsche’s other new offerings at Paris – the V8 diesel Cayenne and new 911 Carrera 4 – and didn’t just give us a taste of the new Panamera but also of the new Porsche hybrid system – Porsche e-Hybrid.
The e-Hybrid system is a plug-in hybrid system with a 333PS V6 and 95PS electric motor promising to deliver official economy figures of 81mpg, the ability to drive for 18 miles on EV only, a 2.5 hour charge and can muster 416PS to make a serious dent in the horizon when you don’t care about the fuel you’re using. And by our reckoning that official fuel consumption of 81mpg will make the Panamera Sport Turismo a sub-100g/km car, with all the tax breaks that delivers.
So, the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo is good looking (not Aston Martin good looking, but drop dead gorgeous by German standards), promises stupidly low official fuel consumption, should be able to get to 62mph in under 5.0 seconds, seat four or five in comfort and carry all their stuff to.
Will the Panamera Sport Turismo sell? You bet it will.
