Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross arrives as Mitsubishi’s pitch for the Qashqai’s buyers

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show as a new Mitsubishi fitting between the ASX and Outlander and aimed at the Nissan Qashqai.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has been teased by Mitsubishi ahead of this debut at the Geneva Motor Show, but the wraps are now off the Eclipse Cross in Geneva and it does look a promising offering.

Designed to fit between the ASX and Outlander in Mitsubishi’s current SUV line up (although that will change as the SUV gets expanded further), the Eclipse Cross is firmly aimed at the market leading Nissan Qashqai, made more interesting as Nissan has effectively taken control at Mitsubishi.

For one thing, it promises to have a more than able 4WD system thanks to Mitsubishi’s expertise in this area, with Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system juggling torque around an controlling yaw by braking individual wheels.

Engine options when the Eclipse Cross does go on sale will be a new 1.5 litre petrol with a CVT gearbox (oh, why?) and Mitsubishi’s current 2.2 litre diesel, newly fettled for the Eclipse Cross.

Tech stuff includes the now almost obligatory Apple Car Play and  Android Auto, Smartphone Link Display and  Heads-up display, although not all will be standard across the range.

In fact, Mitsubishi isn’t planning to put the Eclipse Cross on sale in the UK until the start of 2018, so they’re still trying to decided what the spec levels and trim options will be.

But when it does arrive in Mitsubishi’s UK dealers, the Eclipse Cross does look like it deserves to be on your ‘Look List’ if you’re in the market for a compact-ish family SUV.
