New Jaguar E-Pace SUV REVEALED as Jaguar’s F-Pace ‘Cub’ – costs from £28,500

The new Jaguar E-Pace SUV – Jaguar’s ‘baby SUV – officially joins Jaguar’s F-Pace and i-Pace as Jaguar turn to SUVs wholesale.

The Jaguar XE was billed as the car which would see Jaguar’s sales soar in the way Land Rover’s have in recent years, but it’s being outsold by the F-Pace SUV.

But this – the new Jaguar E-Pace SUV – is the car that really could see Jaguar’s sales go through the roof, and it looks completely convincing.

Jaguar don’t see the E-Pace as a baby F-Pace, but they’ve dubbed it the ‘Cub’ and have given the E-Pace ‘Cub’ graphics on the windscreen, and the same for the puddle lights.

But the styling is different from the F-Pace – although the big grille is there – with lights which sweep back, like the F-Type’s, with a sweeping roof, strong lines on the flanks, defined haunches, chicane graphic tail lights, crisp surfacing and a clean rear end.

Inside, the dash is clearly influenced by the F-Type, with a 10.2″ infotainment touchscreen, optional 12.3″ digital instrument panel, Jaguar’s inControl Apps,  HVAC screens and a proper gear stick rather than a rotary knob.

Storage looks to be good too, with big door cubby holes and centre console box, a decent size (577 litre) boot and, it seems, impressive room in the back even for proper-sized grown-ups thanks to the stretched underpinnings from the Evoque / Discovery Sport.

Under the skin, the E-Pace comes with Jaguar’s Ingenium engines – mounted transversely – with an initial choice of 150PS, 180PS and 300PS diesels and 249PS and 300PS petrols but, as yet, no mention of any hybrid E-Pace to come.

There is a choice of trim options – S, SE and HSE  –  for the E-Pace, with and and R-Dynamic Pack for added sporty looks and stuff like Sports Seats with Sportsmesh and leather, new bumpers, gloss black rear valance and satin chrome detailing.

As is now the trend, the Jaguar E-Pace First Edition will be the first new E-pace out of the gate, with the 180PS diesel or 249PS petrol, nine-speed auto, R-Dynamic SE Spec, Windsor leather, ambient lighting, panoramic roof, TFT heads-up, Configurable Dynamic, gesture tailgate, Activity Key and ‘First Edition’ badges. Basically, a showcase for how much you could spend on an E-Pace.

The Jaguar E-Pace is actually already up for order at Jaguar’s UK dealers, with prices which start at £28,500.

But that’s going to be for an entry-level FWD, E-Pace. To get an E-Pace you actually want, expect to pay more like £40k.

Which is what will happen, and that, coupled with the E-Pace’s expected volume, will do wonders for JLR’s bottom line.
