Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept previews a clever, low-riding ELECTRIC SUV
The Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept is a preview of a future low-riding electric SUV from Mitsubishi, complete with three electric motors and artificial intelligence.
A couple of weeks ago we had the first tease for the Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept, a new electric SUV concept heading for the Tokyo Motor Show. Now, with the Tokyo Show looming, we get a bit more detail and a new, more revealing, image (above).
Mitsubishi are being a bit coy about the electric powertrain in the e-Evolution, so we have no idea how big the battery pack is and nor how powerful its electric motors are.
But we do know that it comes with three electric motors – one at the front and two at the back – to give proper four-wheel drive, and gets active yaw control to couple the two back motors and deliver electronically controlled torque vectoring. Which sounds promisingly able.
Mitsubishi also say the e-Evolution is big on Artificial Intelligence, able to read changes in road and traffic and understand the driver’s intent.
It sounds a bit like the ultimate electronic nanny, reigning in the inept but perhaps not allowing the more experienced to enjoy the drive to the full.
Mitsubishi do say the system can ‘train’ drivers to get the best out of the car with a training programme providing advice through voice and graphics. Let’s hope you can turn it all off and play when you want.
The Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept may not preview an exact production model, but it certainly shows Mitsubishi’s future intent to deliver clever, green ‘Premium’ and appealing EVs.
