The Mercedes-Benz X-Class ‘Posh Pick-up’ goes on sale in the UK with prices from £27,310 (£32,780 inc VAT) with a choice of two engines and three trim levels.
Mercedes-Benz revealed their take on the Nissan Navara – the Mercedes X-Class – back in July, as the three-pointed star made a move to create a new niche – the ‘Posh’ pick-up. And now the new X-Class is officially on sale in the UK.All UK models of the X-Class come with doublecab, four-wheel drive with low range, drive selection mode, wishbones at the front and multi-link at the back.
There’s a choice of three trims – Pure, Progressive and Power – each getting ‘posher’ and each costing more as the spec grows.
To kick things off, Mercedes is offering just two engine choices, with the X 220d 4MATIC getting a four-cylinder 2.3 litre diesel with 161bhp, and the X 250d 4MATIC using the same engine but with 188bhp.
Standard stuff across the range includes Active Brake Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Hill Start Assist, Reversing Camera and Stop-Start.
There’s also the Audio 20 CD infotainment with 7″ screen, Bluetooth, DAB, pre-installation for Garmin Sat Nav and Mercedes Me Connect.
Opt for the entry-level Pure spec – only as the X 220d with manual transmission – and you get an integrated step on the back bumper, black fabric upholstery, Air Con, high gloss black details and 17″ steel wheels.
The likely big seller – the Pure spec – costs another £1200 (£1,440 inc VAT) and can be had as an X 220d or X 250d with 4MATIC and adds painted bumpers, aluminium door sills, chrome handles, load securing system, heated mirrors and a matt silver grille.
It gets black fabric upholstery too, and aluminium trim and chrome air vents, as well as a set of 17″ vanadium silver alloys.
If you want to grab the ultimate X-Class, then you need to opt for the Power trim – which costs an extra £3,500 (£4,200 inc VAT) on top of the Progressive trim – but does throw a chunk more in to the pot.
Only available as the X 250d 4MATIC, it gets painted bumpers with simulated chrome underguards, chrome rear bumper, Fogs, Chrome strips, LED headlights and tail lights, Keyless Go and electric folding mirrors.
Inside it gets electric front seats, Artico leather and high gloss black trim, as well as more imposing 18″ alloys.
Options include a style package for the Power and Progressive models, Comfort PAckage for the Progressive model, Parking Pack for the Progressive and Power models, Plus Package on the Pure and a Winter Package, as well as individual options like diff lock, extra ground clearance and special paints.
The new Mercedes X-Class is now on sale, with first customer deliveries due in January 2018, but you’ll have to wait until later in 2018 if you want the more powerful X 350d.
