The new Aston Martin V8 Vantage has finally been officially revealed, sporting underpinnings based on the new DB11 and promising impressive performance.
The Aston Martin V8 Vantage has been the best selling car Aston Martin has ever made, so the new 2018 Aston Martin Vantage needs to be special to keep AML sales flowing. And it does look to tick all the boxes. We’ve already seen plenty of the new Vantage in everything from tease videos to ‘official’ spy shots, but in the flesh the Vantage looks even more dynamic, and it cuts a unique look even if it has been influenced by the Bond DB10.
With a bonded and riveted aluminium structure inherited from the DB11 – although Aston say getting on for three quarters of the Vantage is unique – it’s shorter and lighter than the DB11, with stiffer rear suspension, eight-speed ZF gearbox and the same AMG V8 as the DB11 too.
That means 503bhp and 505lb/ft of torque you can extra with your right foot, enough to get to 62mph in 3.6 seconds and on to 195mph – if you can find anywhere to do that.
It promises to be able to use that power to good effect too, with double wishbones at the front, multi-link at the back, adjustable dampers, torque vectoring, an electronic E-diff, Pirelli P Zeros and a choice of three modes – Sport, Sport Plus and Track.
The design is familiar Bond DB10 – to a degree – with a wheel at each corner look, and sports a big grille, small headlights lights, front splitter, side gills, rear diffuser, full width tail lights, ‘duck tail’ rear spoiler and tail pipes you could crawl up after a diet.
It’s a dramatic look, certainly in the launch car’s ‘Lime from Chernobyl’ paint job, and clearly demonstrates Aston’s intent to make the Vantage a real performance car, not a small DB11.
Inside looks a big improvement on both the old Vantage and the new DB11, buttons make a return, there’s splashes of body colour, big flappy paddles, leather and an altogether cohesive and appealing ambience.
The new Aston Martin Vantage is already on sale at Aston’s UK dealers, with prices starting at £120,00 and first customer cars due in spring 2018.
