Ford Edge SUV Facelift REVEALED ahead of Detroit debut

The Ford Edge SUV has been given a bit of a facelift for and has been revealed ahead of its debut in the US at the Detroit Motor Show. Not expected in the UK until 2019.

It’s only two years since the Ford Edge SUV arrived in the UK market as a big brother to the Kuga and Ecosport in Ford’s SUV range, but it’s already getting a bit of a facelift.

Revealed ahead of a public debut at this month’s Detroit Motor Show, the titivated Edge isn’t actually expected to arrive in the UK and Europe until 2019, but the reveal gives us a pretty clear idea of what Ford will be offering in the UK’s Edge facelift then.

The usual facelift fodder applies, with the Edge getting a new front end with Ecosport-like grille and new LED headlights, and the back end loses its full-width light cluster which is replaced by new tail lights and a black glass panel in between.

New technology includes Ford’s Evasive Steering Assist which aims to steer you round obstacles if needed, along with Forward Collision Warning, Pre-Collision Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane Keep Assist.

Inside, the centre console gets a bit of a makeover, including the replacement of the gear shift lever on automatic cars with a rotary knob. Now where have we seen that before?

Engine options for the US include a four-cylinder 2.0 litre petrol, which gets an extra 5bhp, as well as a 2.7 litre V6 with 335bhp.

But when the Edge arrives in the UK and Europe next year, it’s probably only going to be tweaked versions of the 2.0 litre diesel currently on offer on the cards. Although the car market’s current aversion to diesel may make Ford think on that.
