DS 7 Crossback Ultra Prestige PureTech 225 petrol arrives in the UK
The top of the range model of the new DS 7 Crossback range – the Ultra Prestige PureTech 225 – arrives in the UK in the hands of France’s UK Ambassador.
It’s six months since the new DS 7 Crossback went on sale in the UK, with Citroen’s posh brand hoping it will steal sales from ‘Premium’ makers with an appealing mix of French quirkiness and style.Prior to its release in the UK market, Citroen managed to get a bit of a nationalistic glow for the DS 7 Crossback with fairy dust from Macron’s inauguration as France’s President floating on to their new car as he waved to adoring crowds through the roof of a DS 7 on the Champs-Elysées.
Now the first range-topping Ultra Prestige DS 7 with the 225 petrol engine arrives in the UK, and Citroen has managed to get it housed at the French Embassy in London, where it will fulfil duties as an official embassy car to ferry France’s ambassador to the UK – Jean-Pierre Jouyet – on official duties.
Citroen say the embassy has chosen the DS 7 because it has an alluring presence, a certain French savoir faire and unique features. Frankly, it’s also the most ‘Premium’ car made in France these days; long gone are the days of big Citreons Peugeots and Renaults capable of doing the job. Interestingly, the ‘FRA 1’ number plate on the French Embassy’s new DS 7 is worth more than the car.
It’s a good bit of publicity for the DS 7 Crossback, and although DS are trumpeting it as the ‘range-topping’ DS 7, it will be usurped by the DS 7 Crossback E-TENSE 4×4 with its 300bhp plug-in hybrid powertran when it arrives in the UK in Autumn 2019.
Perhaps His Excellency, Jean-Pierre Jouyet should put in his order now?
