DS 7 Crossback hits the road with new French President Macron
Citroen’s new DS 7 Crossback hits the road for the first time in France, with new President Macron standing through the roof waving along the Champs-Elysées.
The new DS 7 Crossback – a new large SUV from Citroen’s posh DS brand – got its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March (and went to Shanghai too), but it hasn’t been seen on the road yet. Until now.But now, with the DS 7 still some seven months away from actually hitting the road properly, it’s managed to grab a very high-profile public driving debut courtesy of the new French President, Emmanuel Macron.
DS has built a special pre-production DS 7 Crossback for the new President to drive from his inauguration down the Champs-Elysées, waving to the crowds whilst standing up through a big open roof.
Citroen gave this Presidential DS 7 a proper titivate before they let the new President near, with a special Ink Blue paint job, a ‘Black Art’ leather interior, 20″ alloys and an opening roof so Macron could do his ‘Presidential Waving’ bit.
It’s an appropriate public driving debut for the DS 7, and not without precedent.
Charles de Gaulle used DS cars in the 1960s, Claude Pompidou grabbed the appealing SM version in the 1970s, Gerard d’Estaing a DS 23 Prestige, Francois Mitterand and Jacques Chirac played the same solidarity card, and Jacques Chirac also followed suite in 2012 with a DS 5.
Mere mortals will have to wait until January 2018 before they get to play with the DS 7C rossback. And their roof won’t open.
