McLaren 600LT ARRIVES

The McLaren 600LT arrives as a more powerful, and lighter, 570S as McLaren roll out the ‘LongTail’ tag again, this time for the Sport Series.

The arrival of the McLaren 675LT back in 2015 made it all but inevitable that McLaren would deliver a ‘Long Tail’ version of its Sport Series range too, and here it is – the McLaren 600LT.

The ‘LT’ stands for ‘Longtail’ and is a moniker McLaren use rather sparingly for cars with extended bodywork delivering greater downforce, the most famous of which is the McLaren F1 GTR.

Even McLaren aren’t pretending that the 600LT is a successor to the F1 GTR – after all, it belongs to McLaren’s ‘entry-level’ Sport Series range – but it does come with 600 metric horses and performance, and downforce, which the F1 GTR wouldn’t be ashamed of.

The extra bodywork on the Longtail adds 74mm to its length (three inches in old money) and increases downforce, also with the help of bigger splitter, rear diffuser, side skirts and a fixed wing, and it’s 96kg lighter than then 570S too.

The 592bhp and 457lb/ft of torque from the McLaren’s 3.8 litre turbo V8, and lower weight, should translate in to a sub-3 second 0-62mph, engine mounts are stiffer, the exhausts escape from the engine without bothering to go far, the aluminium wishbones come from the Super Series cars and there’s a set of Pirelli Trofeo R tyres. Inside isn’t the epitome of luxury but nor is it hair shirt time, with carbon fibre racing seats and the promise MSO will do anything you want.

Production of the 600LT starts in October and number will be limited. Price starts at £185,500.
