New Toyota Supra CAMOUFLAGE inspired by WWI Battleship Razzle-Dazzle

The new Toyota Supra is interesting for lots of reasons, but the unique camouflage the prototype Supras sport is another reason to love Toyota’s new Supra.

The new Toyota Supra isn’t far away from landing in production guise – although it will be beaten to the punch by its Teutonic sibling, the new BMW Z4 – and Toyota is going to great lengths to deliver a new Supra which is faithful to its lineage and not simply a re-badged BMW.

Attention to detail is key, but Toyota hasn’t just paid attention to what makes the Supra what it is, but they’ve also been quite anal about even the smallest of details – like the new Supra’s unique camouflage.

Rather than just do the usual swirly black and white wrap to disguise their new car’s proportions and detail, Toyota has come up with a unique camouflage for the prototype Supras we’ve seen, and it gets inspiration from an unusual source.

Toyota has taken inspiration from artist Norman Wilkinson’s Dazzle camouflage for WWI Battleships (called ‘Razzle Dazzle’ by the US Navy when they copied it) which was designed to make ships stand out rather than hide, but its mix of colours and geometric shapes confused directions and detail in the process. And that’s what Toyota has done with the Supra’s camouflage.

Adding in some Gazoo colours, a hint of the chequered flag, micro and macro patterns and a gloss finish, the Supra has manged to go out in public as disguised as it possible could be. And look different from every other camouflaged car.
