Audi A7 Sportback, A6 Saloon and A6 Avant 40 TDI
The Audi A7 Sportback, A6 Saloon and A6 Avant can now be optioned with Audi#s 40 TDI diesel, the first time a four-cylinder option has been available in the A7.
We’re all getting used to fewer cylinders under the bonnet of big premium cars as car makers are forced to do what they can to keep their average CO2 emissions at levels which satisfy regulators, which explains the arrival of a four-cylinder engine under the bonnet of the Audi A7 Sportback for the first time. The 40 TDI engine – which is now also available in the A6 Saloon and A6 Avant – is a 2.0 litre mild hybrid lump with a belt alternator starter delivering 201bhp and, claim Audi, is good for 62.8 mpg in the A6 Saloon and 60.2mpg in the A6 Avant and A7 Sportback. That should translate in to at least mid-40s mpg in the real world.
Performance is acceptable in such big lumps of cars (taking 8.1-8.3 seconds) and is only available initially with FWD, although 4WD quattro versions will be available later in 2018.
Trim levels for the A7, A6 and A6 Avant 40 TDI are Sport and S line, with equipment levels matching their bigger-engined siblings, with Sport trim on the A6, A6 Avant and A7 costing £38,640, £40,470 and £47,140 respectively, and S line trim £42,000, 44,100 and £50,040.
The new 40 TDI engine for the A6 and A7 is now available to order at Audi’s UK dealers
