New BMW Z4 officially revealed at Pebble Beach
The new BMW Z4, BMW’s half of the joint development project with the new Toyota Supra, finally gets an official reveal at Pebble Beach in First Edition guise.
It’s exactly a year since the BMW Z4 Concept was unveiled at Pebble Beach, and BMW is back in California this week to reveal the production take on their new Roadster.Surprisingly, BMW is still being a bit tight-lipped with the new Z4, and despite official photos of the Z4 leaking a few weeks ago they still don’t seem ready to give us proper details. Apparently, we need to wait until 18 September to get details of the engine variants and equipment, ahead of a debut at the Paris Motor Show.
What we do know is that the Z4 at Pebble Beach is a Z4 M40i First Edition model with Frozen Orange paint job, an electric fabric roof in anthracite with silver effect, High Gloss Shadow and 19″ bi-colour alloys.
Inside there’s Vernasca black leather, electric memory seats, Harmon Kardon Sound, and ambient lighting, as well as adaptive LED headlights, HUD and BMW Live Cockpit Professional.
Under the long bonnet sits the BMW straight six-cylinder petrol engine with 335bhp, sports suspension, electronically controlled dampers, M Sport brakes, electronic M Sport diff and rear axle transmission. BMW say the Z4 M40i will hit 62mph in 4.6 seconds.
Further details, especially on the new Z4’s powertrains, won’t be forthcoming until next month, but expect to see a 2.0 litre four-pot or two on offer, another six-pot variant and perhaps more besides.

Compared to the mad looks of the Z3 and the last Z4, this looks incredibly tame. I’m sure it’s a very capable car, but why so bland looking?
