VW T-Roc Cabriolet SPIED on video
The VW T-Roc Cabriolet – an open top take on Volkswagen’s T-Roc SUV – is on the way for 2020, and it’s caught on video testing – and looking like a Golf Cabriolet.
We still can’t really get our heads round the appeal of convertible SUVs, although the very few on the market – think Nissan Murano and Range Rover Evoque – would suggest most car makers can’t either. But the lack of choice in convertible SUVs doesn’t seem to have convinced Volkswagen there’s a very limited market, so they’re ploughing ahead with plans for a T-Roc Cabriolet, investing £70 million in the project to bring it to fruition by 2020.
Ahead of that, VW are out playing with the T-Roc Cabriolet, and it’s caught here out testing ahead of a debut likely to be later in 2019 before it arrives as a production model in 2020.
The Cabriolet out testing on this video has its roof firmly up, and has a remarkable resemblance to a Golf Cabrio – just a Golf Cabrio with heel lifts – and, perhaps because of that, looks a little less incongruous than other Cabriolet SUVs.
But even if it looks better than expected, the T-Roc Cabriolet is still going to be relatively impractical – certainly for an SUV – with its compromised load space accommodating that folding roof and its additional weight. It’s also likely to cost a chunk more than a regular T-Roc.
But if you’re desperate for one, VW will be happy to oblige by 2020.
