Aston Martin DBX SUV confirmed for DEBUT in Q4 2019
The Aston Martin DBX SUV – which could be the Aston Martin Varekai – will arrive as a production model in Q4 2019, confirms AML.
It can’t have escaped your notice that an Aston Martin SUV is on the way to try and grab a share of the market for ‘Super’ SUVs, and now it’s confirmed it will finally arrive in the last quarter of 2019 as a production model. And it could well be called the Aston Martin Varekai. As AML continue what seems to be good progress with the construction of their new production facility in St Athans – which started out as a trio of MoD super hangers – they’ve finally been more specific about the DBX’s launch date, although a debut in Q4 2019 does rule out an appearance at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show (it’s in September).
The DBX will be built on the new AML home in Wales – which will also be home to the new range of Lagonda electric cars – which is already home to 100 AML employees (200 by Q1 2019 and 700 by Q1 2020), has its Paint Shop already installed and a production line well underway.
Andy Palmer, AML CEO, said:
As the St Athan facility nears completion, there is a very real sense this is the start of a bold new era for Aston Martin Lagonda. A second production facility is a critical step in delivering our Second Century Plan. The St Athan facility will initially commence with the production of our first SUV but will ultimately be a global centre of excellence for the production of luxury high performance EVs, including Lagonda: the world’s first luxury electric automotive brand.
