New Toyota Supra LEAKS ahead of Detroit debut

The new Toyota Supra, due to get its public debut at the Detroit Motor Show, has been uncovered in the back of a car transporter.

We know, you’re getting a bit bored with the wait for the new Toyota Supra, a car missing from Toyota’s range for 16 years. But, after umpteen teases and promises, the new Supra will debut at the 2019 Detroit Motor Show next month.

But if you can’t wait for the Detroit Show to see the new Supra, you can now see its front end in a newly published photo of a new Supra lurking uncovered in a car transporter (above) thanks to the chaps over at SupraMkV.

What we see is what we pretty much expected, a Supra taking a lot of influence from the FT-1 Concept from half a decade ago, albeit with the drama turned down a notch or two to make the Supra a production reality. If the rest of the car keeps close to the Ft-1 concept buyers should be pretty happy.

Despite the endless teases and long wait, there’s still a limited amount of official conformation about what lurks under the skin of the new Supra, but it’s likely to be the option of either a 3.0 litre BMW six with around 350bhp or a smaller four-pot 2.0 litre BMW lump, as well as the promise of much rigidity and a short wheelbase.

But it does seem likely the new Supra will come with an eight-speed auto ‘box as the default, although we’d be astonished if Toyota don’t deliver a manual option soon after launch.

But all will be revealed in Detroit in the New Year.
