McLaren P1 GTR MSO Senna Marlboro Special
McLaren Special Operation (MSO) has created a one-off McLaren P1 GTR for a client cerebrating Ayrton Senna’s maiden F1 win in 1998.
McLaren has been having a woeful time in F1 the last year or two, but there really was a time when they were dominant in the sport, a time when they had Senna and Prost and their cars wore the iconic red and white Marlboro livery. With nothing to celebrate in the F1 world this year, McLaren can at least count on past gloried to inspire their customers, one of whom has ordered MSO to create a special P1 GTR.
The MSO commission for the P1 GTR is to celebrate Senna’s first F1 win in 1988, which means it comes in the iconic, and most successful, of McLaren’s liveries – the red and white Marlboro paint job (although there’s not actually a single Marlboro logo – how times change).
As well as the Marlboro colour scheme, the P1 GTR features Senna’s ’12’ on the bonnet and on the edges of the back wing, a Brazilian flag on the door, as well as a Senna ‘Barcode’ and a Pirelli and SAP logo thrown in for good measure.
The new owner has christened the new car ‘Beco – apparently a family name for Senna – and has endowed it not just with the new paint job, but with a bit of extra power, a 24-carat gold heat shield in the engine compartment (just like the McLaren F1), and tweaks to the aero for more downforce.
Inside there’s lots of Alcantara, Senna’s signature (and a quite) on the chassis sill, super light racing seats from the McLaren Senna – and even a special race helmet in matching livery.
