Tesla Model 3 does 1,697 miles on public roads in 24 hours

With rapid charge stations for EVs starting to proliferate across Europe, a Youtuber has managed to do 1,697 miles on public roads in just 24 hours. 

Apart from the up-front costs of buying an electric car, the biggest turn-off for potential Ev adopters is range anxiety.

In a sense that’s a bit daft, as even the range of the feeblest EV – like the E-Up! – is enough for more than the average daily commute or usage, but a lack of proper EV recharging infrastructure – and what’s available isn’t always reliable – does make range anxiety real.

But now Ionity is starting to roll out ultra rapid charging stations across Europe and the UK – and others like Gridserve are following behind – it’s quickly getting to the point where range anxiety in EVs should be a thing of the past, as long as you’re happy to take a bit of a detour on many journeys to top up.

To prove that you really can do silly mileage in an EV, Youtuber Bjørn Nyland set out to see how many miles could be done in a Tesla Model 3 in 24 hours.

Eschewing Tesla’s Supercharger network, Nyland utilised Ionity’s new charging network in Germany for his attempt, topping up to just 50 per cent every time he stopped (EV charging slows down the nearer to capacity you get) and, in the course of 24 hours covered a massive 1.697 miles.

You can watch edited footage of the record run in the video below, but at nearly three hours long it’s not the most exciting watch you’ll ever encounter.
