Ford Mustang55 celebrates 55 years of Mustang
It’s 55 years since the Ford Mustang first hit showrooms, and Ford is celebrating with a Mustang55 Special Edition with the 5.0-litre V8 engine.
Ford in the UK and Europe may be heading down the familiar ‘We build SUVs’ route many car makers are, but there’s still room for a bit of American Muscle car joy, even in the UK.The Ford Mustang is now firmly established as a proper RHD offering in the UK, and although that has not always been the case the UK can still use the Mustang’s long history to deliver a special edition model.
It’s 55 years since the Mustang first arrived in the firts half of the 1960s, so it’s appropriate to deliver the Mustang55 as a Special Edition to celebrate. Although Ford hasn’t exactly gone overboard to make the Mustang55 ‘special’.
Essentially a 5.0 litre V8 Mustang, the Mustang55 gets the same 444bhp output of the regular model, enough to get to 62mph in just under 5.0 seconds. Hot hatch territory these days.
Titivations to deliver the Mustang55 include unique 19″ alloys, new black grille, rear spoiler, black badging, black roof and a smattering of decals. Inside there’s heated and cooled seats in the front, B&O Sound and 8″ infotainment.
As well as the Mustang55, Ford has announced the 2.3 litre Ecoboost Mustang is getting some Shelby-like upgrades, with 19″ alloys, stripes, new mirrors and painted spoiler and grille.
Ford say they’ll reveal prices next month when the Mustang55 goes on sale.
